The Recovery House is a self-supporting, substance-free home where individuals in recovery work together to maintain a supportive and respectful living environment. The house operates on principles of responsibility, mutual respect, and commitment to recovery.
Core Values
- Substance-Free Environment
All residents are expected to remain 100% sober. Any use of drugs or alcohol results in immediate expulsion from the house.
- Self-Supporting Community
Residents share the financial responsibility for the house, including rent and maintenance contributions.
- Respectful Behavior
A stable and safe environment is essential. Disruptive behavior that disturbs the peace and harmony of the house will not be tolerated.
- Democratic Decision-Making
The house operates on a democratic basis, with all residents having a voice in house decisions.
- Personal Accountability
Residents are responsible for maintaining a clean living environment, paying rent on time, and contributing to the upkeep of the house.
Additional Expectations and House Rules
- New Resident Approval
New residents must be approved by a vote of at least 80% of current residents before joining the house.
- House Leadership
Residents elect house officers who take on specific responsibilities, such as organizing chores, handling finances, and overseeing house rules.
- Recovery Plans
All residents are expected to develop and follow a formal recovery plan with the House President or a House Mentor.
- Support Group Participation
Attendance at external support group meetings (e.g., AA, NA) is encouraged and often required.
- House Curfews & Visitors
Some Recovery Houses have curfews and restrictions on overnight guests, particularly for residents in the early stages of recovery.
- Respect for Boundaries
It is essential for residents to respect each other's personal space and privacy.
- Food & Personal Items
All food items should be labeled with initials, and personal items should not be used without permission.
- Cleanliness
Maintaining a clean and organized living space is a shared responsibility for all residents.
- Pets
Some Recovery Houses may allow pets to provide emotional support, subject to house rules.
- Relocation Assistance
Upon completing the recovery program, residents who wish to relocate may receive assistance in finding new living arrangements.
